How does hair grow?

Each hair goes through four primary stages of growth – an anagen stage, a catagen stage, a telogen stage, and exogen stage. The growth stage is known as the anagen stage. The catagen stage represents a transitional phase. During this period, the hair follicle shrinks and becomes detached from the follicle’s base, which is called the papilla.

The resting phase, or telogen stage, covers the period when old hair completely stops growing and falls out. After the old hair falls out, the hair follicle re-attaches itself to the dermal papilla or the base of the follicle, which leads to the emergence of new hair during the exogen stage. The cycle is repeated, starting, again, with the anagen or growth stage. That is why you need to go through several laser treatments. To target hair that is growing, this is necessary.
