FAQ
How does laser tattoo removal work?
There have been major advances in tattoo removal technology over the past 5 years. Most novel systems carry what is called picosecond technology, which allows the laser to fire its energy in trillionths of a second. In contrast to conventional tattoo removal technology (nanosecond systems), the newest picosecond lasers do not heat the tissue but break the ink particles by inducing photoacustic or photomechanical damage. These fragmented particles are then consumed by your own immune system, and will be flushed out naturally through your body. The latest technology is gentler, faster and more effective for all types of pigment color.

It can be slightly more irritating than the initial tattoo process. The pain can best be described as being similar to how it feels when a rubber band is snapped against your skin. Fortunately though each treatment is quick, lasting anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes. The amount of time depends on the size and depth of the tattoo. And, a numbing agent may be applied before starting to reduce the irritation. We also use a chiller to blow cold are which minimizes the discomfort of the procedure.
Read MoreHow many sessions of tatoo removal should I expect to have?
Because most tattoos are created with multiple layers of ink, breaking them up will probably require a few treatments. The average amount of treatments is about 5 to 10 per tattoo. However, a faded or lighter tattoo might only require 3 to 4 treatments. Importantly, it is advisable to have a session every 2-3 months and not sooner as the pigment needs to rearrange so that the laser can effectively treat it.
Multiple factors are taken into consideration when determining how many treatments could be needed, including:
The age of the tattoo
Density of the ink
Location of the tattoo
Depth of the ink
Pre-existing scarring
Skin type of the patient
Patient’s health
A consultation will help determine the amount of treatments you will need.
