A new study found that your eyebrows are the most important features of your face. Eyebrows are important in facial recognition and relay your mood better than any other facial feature. With the normal aging process, the skin loses its elasticity and collagen creating a sagging and tired look. The skin is no longer firm and beautiful and the eyebrows descend producing a fatigued and heavy appearance. However, you can restore your most important facial feature to its younger look with the help of a brow lift. A brow lift can remove years of forehead wrinkles and fine lines while making your eyes appear more open and refreshed.
Reasons to undergo a brow lift:
- Eliminate vertical worry lines between the eyebrows.
- Eliminate horizontal wrinkles and fine lines on the forehead.
- Remove excess drooping skin from the forehead.
- Lift sagging eyebrows, creating a youthful and fresh look that is timeless.
These benefits can increase your confidence while allowing you to look as good as you feel. The first step of your transformation begins by visiting with our surgeons to discuss your individual aesthetic needs with our consultation.
Brow Lift Consultation and Planning
During your consultation, our surgeons will listen to your aesthetic goals, ask about your medical history and perform a physical exam in order to determine if you meet the necessary requirements and are a good candidate for brow lift surgery. It is important with any surgical intervention that you have realistic expectations of the outcomes prior to undergoing a procedure.
Brow lift surgery is likely to be recommended by your surgeon if you are experiencing these signs and symptoms:
- Sagging eyebrows.
- Forehead creases that are deep.
- Worry lines between the eyebrows.
- Droopy eyelids with excess skin.
The consultation process will include the surgeon describing the different options available for this procedure and any risks associated with the procedure. Surgical options include a traditional brow lift and an endoscopic brow lift. The endoscopic brow lift is less invasive and is utilized in patients who have minor cosmetic signs of aging. The traditional brow lift is a more invasive procedure and allows for excess skin removal. This procedure is reserved for patients who have advanced signs of aging.
If you decide that you are ready to schedule your surgery, you will be asked to discontinue aspirin and any anti-inflammatory medications you are taking and refrain from smoking for your elective procedure.
Brow Lift Procedure Description
A brow lift is performed in our outpatient certified surgery center under general anesthesia and takes about an hour. There are two common techniques that are used to perform a brow lift: a traditional brow lift procedure and endoscopic brow lift procedure.
The traditional brow lift is performed in people who have advanced signs of aging and need skin excision. The incision is created at the hair, so it is concealed and leaves an imperceptible scar. The muscles that produce wrinkles between the eyebrows are cut and the skin is tightened and repositioned so that the wrinkles and fine lines are eliminated while the eyebrows are lifted. The incisions are then closed, and the result is youthful eyebrows and forehead.
The endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure in which several small incisions are made in the hair. A camera is then used to dissect under the eyebrows and cut the muscles. The skin is then repositioned using suture suspension or screws to provide a youthful complexion. The incisions are still located in the hairline, and they are smaller in size than the traditional lift. The incisions are closed usually with staples and there is little to no scarring. Endoscopic brow lift offers benefits because it is minimally invasive and allows for a quicker recovery. However, it can only be used in patients that have a relatively short forehead and do not need any forehead skin removal.
Brow Lift Recovery
You will go home after your procedure and will be scheduled for a follow-up consultation with your surgeon. Sutures or staples in your scalp are removed in 10 -14 days after the surgery. You will receive a prescription for pain medications and should not drive while taking them. You should sleep with your head elevated and use ice for swelling. Recovery is unique to each individual patient and depends on a multitude of factors. However, in most cases, patients are ready to return to work with minimal restrictions in a few days. The restrictions include avoiding strenuous physical activity and heavy lifting for approximately four weeks after surgery. By one month, major swelling and bruising associated with this procedure completely resolve, and you will be able to enjoy the final results of your brow lift.
Brow Lift Results
The results will vary from patient to patient; however, many patients are very happy with their overall improvement in eyebrows and forehead and report long-lasting results. After the swelling subsides, you will notice the youthful, firm skin you once had decades prior.
You can enjoy beautiful, smoother forehead and natural elevated eyebrows with brow lift procedures performed by our surgeon at Houston Dermatology and Plastic Surgery.
