What types of breast implants are available?

The new generation of silicone breast implants are filled with a cohesive silicone gel and are often referred to as a “gummy bear breast implants”. There are also anatomic or tear drop shaped breast implants that allow for a more natural appearance and may be better suited for very thin patients.
How is breast implant size selected?
Breast implants selection happens through a thorough discussion between the surgeon and the patient. Patient’s desired breast size is considered, but patient’s anatomy may be the driving force for the ultimate decision of implant size. Your surgeon will help make recommendations on the implants that would best enhance your breasts whether it is for a natural look or a more augmented appearance.
If you desire to increase your breast size by approximately one cup size, then you may need a 150-250cc implants based on your body shape. Your chest width, tissue thickness, laxity and body shape will determine what size of implant you may need. Not every patient may be able to accommodate very large implants, and your surgeon will guide you through the selection.
Can breast augmentation be done without implants?
